Topsy Jewell's Recent Work
I use two types of clay, a white and red stoneware, and make all my glazes using oxides and stains. The pots are fired in an electric kiln (the electricity is provided 100% by renewables). The glazes on the white stoneware come out bright, glossy and colourful. The same glazes are softer and more ‘earthy’ on the red stoneware which is a clay dug from the cliffs near St. Agnes in Cornwall with added iron oxide. The iron oxide reacts with my glazes in the kiln to give different shades of colour.
